Students complain about how Blackburn College lacks a few things. One of those things is not having a kitchen in Graham, North, Jones or Butler. I believe every dorm should have a kitchen because it gives students the option to practice cooking, is healthier and gives them a break from always going to the dining hall. Students often complain about how the food in Ding tastes and how limited the options are. I believe it is unfair to the people in the residence halls who do not have a kitchen. It makes more sense for every residence hall to have a kitchen instead of just two of them.
I asked students their opinions on whether there should be kitchens in all residence halls. Senior theatre major Jason Wasson who lives in Graham, believes all residence halls should have kitchens because students can cook their own meals and it can decrease traffic in Ding.
“You can cook your own food and learn to be more independent in your meal preparation,” said Wasson. If there was a kitchen in Graham, Wasson said he would cook Tuna Helper.
Freshman environmental biology major Destiny Poggemoeller who lives in Butler, believes all residence halls should have kitchens so students can make their own food whenever they want to. “The benefits of having a kitchen in all halls would be giving students the opportunity of cooking healthy meals. Students would have wider options on what to eat instead of having to eat in Ding everyday,” said Poggemoeller. If there was a kitchen in Butler, Poggemoeller said she would make baked goods since she likes to bake. Poggemoeller also stated that a lot of students probably do not know how to cook and that having kitchens would give them some experience.
Students would be happier at Blackburn College if all residence halls had kitchens. I see students who like to cook and do not get to because they do not have kitchens in their halls. It is a shame that students have to deal with eating gross food and have limited options in Ding. Blackburn needs to step it up and add kitchens to Graham, North, Jones and Butler!
