De-Stressing in College: How is it Done?

College students face tremendous amounts of stress daily. Things such as academic anxiety, finances, relationships and future planning can overwhelm any student. Stress is not always a bad thing; the trouble is caused when you do not know how to cope with it. Sometimes it can get overwhelming and can be detrimental to your learning experience and experience in general. Some people believe that finding the time in college to de-stress is stressful, but it does not have to be. There are plenty of things that you can do to reduce your stress without stressing.

One major way to de-stress in college could be as simple as putting aside the things that are stressing you out at the moment by taking a breather or break. Junior mathematics major Taylor Prince leans toward this method and says that when she is stressed out, she will take a break from it. Then she will cry about it later, which relieves some of the tension and stress. For Prince, both a brake and crying do just the trick. When she is in a better mindset, she will continue with her work.

Other ways of de-stressing are having a creative outlet for your stress, such as listening to music, getting organized and practicing good time management skills. Madison DesLaurier, a junior and professional writing major, says her favorite ways to reduce stress are going into nature, listening to music and coloring. Those things usually help her to alleviate stress and can possibly do the same for you.

Finding out what some of your stress relievers are is as simple as thinking of what calms you down. If you do anything besides the thing that is stressing you out, it should reduce some of your stress. Stress is a part of life, but it should not get excessive. Stress is not something that can always be avoided. Again, college is especially stressful, but knowing how to cope with it successfully is the key. Now, that you know of some different ways that you can de-stress, you can start attacking and better handling your individual stressors. Just remember that stress relief is possible.
