Email announcements will soon be something of the past. The Blackburn Hub is currently being designed by Public Relations and is set to be fully operation by Oct. 1.
The Hub will be the new form of communication for announcements. Now every announcement will be posted to a website where those who would like to read the announcements will be able to while those who do not necessarily care will not be subjected to the multiple emails sent daily. The Blackburn community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, will be able to access this website and stay up to date with everything going on in the community.
When the Hub is up and running those who would like access will have the opportunity to create a profile to see all announcements and interact with others in the community. The Hub is a place where one can post their own announcements, create groups and update post concerning anything and everything at Blackburn.
The goal of the Blackburn Hub is to create a more accurate and timely system where anyone can update the community to what is happening across campus. Before announcements were sent to Public Relations and from there were combined into a mass email for everyone to see. After the Hub is finished the middle man will no longer be an obstacle, each person or department will be in charge of posting what they would like Blackburn to know.
Senior professional writing major Kara Aldridge-Folger said in an email, “I believe this is a better option than what we do now. With the Hub, we are going to get more accuracy when it comes to the Announcements. People can send them out whenever they want instead of waiting for 4 p.m. email like they do now.”
To access the Hub, students, faculty, staff and alumni will need to go to blackburncollegehub.com and use their email login to get started. Once logged in everyone will have their own profile where they will be able to access the announcements and post from the Blackburn community. To post an announcement simply go to the profile page from there go to articles and select new article, the announcements as blog categories and then select announcement as tags.
This new system is intended to have a positive effect on the college; that being said, there will be a learning curve for everyone using the Hub, but with some patience the Blackburn Hub will hopefully be something everyone appreciates instead of the multiple daily emails and a way for the community to stay connected.
