English and Communications department chair Dr. Naomi Crummey is planning a senior writing retreat for the second year in a row. Last year’s retreat was for the writing senior seminar students, the goal then was for the students and professors to get some work done on their seminar projects away from the school environment. This year, the retreat has been opened up to any senior in the English & Communication department.
“One of the ideas that I went into last year was hoping that this retreat would give us an opportunity to talk about the different student projects and I hope to continue that this year as well,” Crummey said. “It’s a great opportunity to not only talk about the work but also being immersed in the work and talking to others about it.”
There are six students participating this year: communications majors Karlee Brimberry, Blade Williams, Parker Ramaker and Deja Bell, in addition to English major Katrina Jahn and professional writing major Shelby Rainford. Two other professors from the English and communications department will join Crummey: Dr. Mark Benedetti and Dr. Natasha Casey.
“This retreat is a chance to share our progress and attain feedback on the work we have been doing,” said Williams in an email. “I am also looking forward to having some fun and relaxation outside of working on seminar during the retreat. The seniors on this trip could use both the work time and relaxation time… The professors could use it too!”
The group will stay in a large house located in northern Kentucky and will leave campus on Friday, Oct. 27, and return on Monday, Oct. 30.
