Blackburn Sends Help to Hurricane Survivors

by Karissa Coonrod

Blackburn Circle K International (CKI) will help recent hurricane victims by hosting a bake sale during Homecoming weekend, Sept. 28 to Sept. 30.

“Blackburn CKI is a service and leadership club focused on giving college students opportunities to serve others,” explained CKI club president Austin Ives. “At one of our initial meetings this fall semester we decided that we wanted to help the many disaster victims all over the country. The way we decided to do so was to run a bake sale Sept. 28 through 30 in DCC during meals to donate to the victims of these tragedies.”

All money raised will go towards disaster relief.

“I’m hoping it’ll be a success because those affected by the natural disasters need as much as they can receive. Donating … is the least our club can do to help,” Ives said.

Freshman pre-med major Carolyn Baca agrees it is a good idea that Blackburn help struggling families in their time of need. “I think that this is a necessity that Blackburn should have done at an earlier time. I’m not bashing what’s happening now, but it would have had a greater impact. However, any donations we can provide will help.”
