Some people on campus may not know, but Blackburn has a dance club. The dance club has ten regular members and a potential new member. The dance team president is a senior creative writing major Jazilyn Colon, from Chicago.
Colon is from a Latina family and said, “I’ve always danced, it’s a part of my culture.” She joined the dance club when she was a freshman. Over the years, the dance team has performed in Blackburn’s Got Talent, halftime shows for some basketball games, masquerade dances and craft nights. Colon also said, “We have a lot of new things planned for the new semester, so stay tuned.”
After this semester, Colon is graduating, and she is leaving the team in Vice President freshman biology major Megan Strang’s capable hands. Colon said, “I feel very comfortable leaving the club with Megan because she has over 14 years of dance under her belt. I’ve let her direct a few of the rehearsals and she did a great job,” Colon said. Although Strang is only a freshman, Colon believes that she is very capable of leading the team. Hopefully the dance will continue for years to come.
