Sharing is Not Caring

by Athena Mata

Sharing is not caring when it comes to spreading viruses. Apparently in the U.S. the current global COVID-19 pandemic is considered “controversial.” However, to the individuals who believe that the U.S. government made up the virus to throw off the upcoming presidential election, that is simply ridiculous. The entire world would not “play along” and fake a pandemic, just to throw off the U.S. election.

Masks are crucial because they greatly reduce the amount of respiratory droplets that come from our mouths and noses. The way that COVID-19 spreads is through the droplets. Consider an example of two people facing each other and talking. If neither person wears a mask, the risk of contracting COVID is high. When one person is wearing a mask, that makes it a medium threat level. When both people wear masks, the risk is relatively low.

As a proper and decent human being, you should care for and treat others the way you wish to be treated. Which means to be healthy and COVID-free. The best way to do that is to simply avoid going to large gatherings, reduce going out when you do not need to and wear a mask the proper way.

To those that do not know, the proper way to wear a mask includes covering your mouth and nose. There are alternatives to a mask, such as a neck gaiter, but they must be double-layered to meet the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mask guidelines.

You also should not be wearing the same mask every day. In fact, you should be washing your cloth face masks regularly. You should not be rewearing disposable face masks. You can either wash your masks in a washing machine, or you can hand wash them.

The only people exempt from wearing a facemask, according to the CDC, are children under the age of two, people who have problems breathing or anyone who is incapable of removing the mask themselves, such as people who are unconscious or incapacitated. However, these people who cannot wear a mask should avoid going out at all. Your “freedom” is not a good enough reason not to wear a mask because you’re risking the health of others.

Businesses with a mask policy have the right to force you to leave; businesses do not have to sell to you if they do not wish to.

We have all heard these things before, but  some people have chosen to not listen to the CDC or the World Health Organization (WHO), legitimate disease specialists. We have already lost over 180,000 people to this disease because of the idiotic ideals of selfish Americans. All I ask is that you wear a mask when going out. You could quite literally be saving someone’s life.
