Lettuce Change

Blackburn’s Snack Bar, located in DCC, is one of the food options for many students, both residents and commuters. One thing that is obvious is the amount of fried food that is offered. Snack Bar Manager Kariem Ali commented on the amount of fried food, as well as what he would like to change as manager.

The amount if fried food on the menu is astounding of Snack Bar. Currently available are mini tacos, bosco sticks, pretzels, tater tots, french fries, mozzarella sticks and more. “It’s quick and easy,” said Ali about the fried food. . Most students don’t really think about the amount of fried food that is available, but I think that they should start considering.

Ali stated, “Snack Bar is unhealthy as it stands right now.” For some students, Snack Bar is the main go-to for meal options. As one of these students, I am looking forward to Ali staying in charge and providing healthier food. There are healthier options that come from the grill, such as the veggie quesadilla, grilled chicken and veggie burger, but all other healthy options are from the cooler.  The healthier options currently available for a quick grab and go, such as the yogurt, is a good option. More fruit cups, more deli sandwiches, more yogurt options will be beneficial for Blackburn.

As a regular at Snack Bar, I do want Ali to pull through and provide more healthier options. As college students, we are mostly on the go. Fried food slows us down, making us tired, unproductive and unmotivated. By adding in more healthy options, I feel that students would be able to make it through the tiring days of classes with more natural and fresh food in our systems.
