The history behind Carlinville, Illinois awaits as the Haunted Carlinville Tours approach. “This is a historical tour of the hauntings that linger in the small town of Carlinville, IL home to coal mines, Sears homes, the Million Dollar Courthouse, Blackburn College and a myriad of ghosts in the heart of Macoupin County,” according to the Illinois Hauntings website. The event is held on Saturday, Oct. 6, Saturday, Oct. 13 and Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The tours start at the Macoupin County Courthouse.

The Macoupin County Courthouse, also known as “The Million Dollar Courthouse,” is 150 years old with many spirits located within its limestone walls, according to the website Illinois Hauntings.

Creator of the Haunted Carlinville Tour and paranormal investigator for American Hauntings Kaylan Schardan enjoys giving tours to the community. “I started working for American Hauntings and created the Haunted Carlinville tour, which has been in operation since 2015. I love meeting people on tours and hearing their own stories of local history and hauntings,” said Schardan.

Schardan wrote her own book, Haunted Carlinville: History and Hauntings that Shaped Macoupin County which explains the details of numerous haunted areas. Schardan has had the pleasure of hearing many ghost stories from guests regarding local haunted locations and experiences.

“If you are interested in local history, the unexplained or both, I welcome you to come on a Haunted Carlinville Tour and experience the history and maybe even some hauntings firsthand,” said Schardan. This would be a spectacular event to attend for those who like spooky mysteries and want to learn more about the hauntings in Carlinville. The cost is $26 per person and you can go on the Illinois Hauntings website to make reservations.

Also Blackburn students have the opportunity to attend a special end of the season ghost hunt at the infamous “Million Dollar Courthouse” on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cost is $50 per person and those interested may reserve their tickets on the Illinois Hauntings website. Those looking for spooky surprises, history, ghost hunts and fun should come on down to the courthouse.
