If you are looking for some horror movies on Netflix for Halloween or just for a good scare, then here are some suggestions!  The following movies are scary movies that I have seen or have heard great things about, and they are in no particular order. Here are the top ten horror movies on Netflix that I would recommend watching.

  1. “The Conjuring”: Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” takes place in 1971 and follows   Carolyn and Roger Perron, who move their family into a farmhouse in R.I., and soon after, strange things start happening.  The family contacts paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to examine the house. They discover that there is a demonic presence in the house that will not leave the Perron family alone.
  2. “The Boy”: Greta Evans, a young American woman, takes a job as a nanny and she is shocked to discover that the young boy is actually a life-sized doll that the family treats as a real child to cope with the death of their son.  Many unusual things start happening involving the doll that scare her, but also fascinate her.
  3. “Hush”: Maddie is a deaf author who lives in an isolated area in the woods. When a masked man terrorizes her peaceful life, she must fight for survival.  She must think fast, and without being able to hear, the masked man has an advantage over her. The odds do not seem to be in her favor.
  4. “The Babadook”: Samuel brings his mother, Amelia, a book to read to him called the Babadook.  This book describes a supernatural entity that torments people. After finishing the book, Samuel confesses that this entity is what has been haunting him during the night.
  5. “The Open House”: Logan and his mother, Naomi, move temporarily into a house in the mountains to cope with the loss of Logan’s father. They meet some strange people during their stay.  Many unusual things start happening, such as objects being moved and the phone ringing with no one speaking from the other line.
  6. “Demonic”: Detective Mark Lewis is called to the notorious haunted Livingston House to investigate and finds three bodies and one survivor from a ghost investigation gone wrong.  A police team interrogates the survivor, while others from the group find cameras and try to solve the mystery through found footage.
  7. “Let Me In”: Owen is a young boy who is bullied at school, and he finds solace in his mysterious friend Abby.  Abby has many secrets and only meets with Owen at night, but she makes him stronger and helps him find his courage to stand up to the bullies.
  8. “The Disappointment’s Room”: Dana, an architect, moves her family into an isolated house in the countryside after the loss of her baby daughter. While she is settling into the house, she finds an odd hidden room in the attic, and after she opens that door, the things that occur make her wish she never opened it in the first place.
  9. “As Above, So Below”: Scarlett Marlowe, an archaeologist, finds a clue leading to the location of an ancient relic, and she quickly rounds up a team to go with her into the catacombs under Paris.  They are tested psychologically and they must find a way out of the catacomb and stay together as a team.
