It’s Beginning to Look A lot Like Christmas at Blackburn

Every year, Student Senate, a student leadership club at Blackburn College, plans and end-of-the-year event for the entire campus. Earlier this month, the organization held a Winter Wonderfest at Jaenke Alumni Center, which included iceless (synthetic) ice skating, a Santa ring toss, snowball pong, snowball toss, duck fishing and balloon darts. Every time a participant won a game, they received a raffle ticket and small prize. With these tickets, students could enter several raffles to win bigger prizes.

Junior political science major and Student Senate member Deja Luckett confirmed more than 60 students attended, and it made several students feel more at home and in the winter spirit. “The idea and event took three weeks to plan and came from Chicago’s Winter Event,” she said. Luckett proposed the event idea during a Student Senate meeting, and they responded favorably. Junior communications major Sebastian Hitzelburger stated, “Like every good event, it cannot be complete until there is good food and drinks. My favorite part of the event was the hot chocolate.”

The 2017 Student Senate includes: Ajay Minton (president), Kirsten Buzzard, Juliet Wooldridge, Alondra Olvera (sponsor), Michael McDermand, Deja Luckett, Jayden Foote, Eric Gudgel, Cassandra Dolen, Alexandra Dolen, Mark Armstrong (sponsor), Kaitlyn Mitchum, Jordan Wood, Cristopher Miller, Asia Coleman, Breanne Cluck and Mackenzie Bryant.
